Are you tired of being motivated by fear? God wasn’t the one that gave you a spirit of fear. In fact, he never intended for it to be a part of your daily life.
So how do you finally get rid of it?
You can live a life without fear, when you understand the authority you’ve been given, you get the choice to stop fear in its tracks every time.
These are 4 simple keys to finally get rid of fear.
1. Tune-out the Voice of Fear
Pastor Kris Vallotton teaches that God (i.e. “The Voice of Truth”) is always talking. Which voice are you choosing to tune-in to?
I’ve spent years believing that only the “Christian Elite” could hear from God. I finally realized that He not only wants to speak to me, but He is already speaking.
Next time you feel the “Voice of Fear” creeping in, recognize that God is waiting there to fill you with His truth.
In my life that looks like simply asking Him, “What do you believe about me?” or “this situation”
In that moment He always knows exactly what you need to hear. After all, He was there when the root of that fear began, and he knows the truth you need to replace it.
2. Spend time in God’s presence
If you have time to try managing your fear yourself, then you have time to spend in His presence. The Bible says that The Holy Spirit is known as “the comforter,” my experience is that He’s pretty good at it.
As business people it’s rare that we have hours to devote to prayer, and many of us have trouble staying focused in that time. God can still speak in the time you do have.
- Take out your phone
- Start a 5 minute timer
- Close your eyes
- Tell God everything that is causing you fear
- Listen to His Voice
- (Repeat if needed)
What you’ll notice is that fear gets drastically smaller the longer you’re in His Presence. Sometimes all you need is those 5 minutes.
3. Take every thought captive.
We capture, like prisoners of war, every thought and insist that it bow in obedience to the Anointed One.
I used the word authority earlier. If we didn’t have adversity, what would we be taking authority over in the first place?
You cannot keep birds from flying over your head but you can keep them from building a nest in your hair. — Martin Luther
Many of us have treated “Fear” like a friend. It keeps us motivated, always achieving more, creating more security, becoming more likeable, always avoiding the things that could leave us sad and lonely.
Some of us believe “Fear” is a good friend, and/or a good motivator.
Fear is not a friend; it has never been a friend. Fear not a good motivator; it doesn’t have your best interest at heart. It’s time to break off fear. You have the authority!
It doesn’t need to be an elaborate prayer, just say… “God, I break off fear from my life, and repent of the lie that fear is a friend.”
4. Press in!
Often times fear is most magnified when the enemy sees how near we are to breakthrough.
Some days will feel like a battle. However, the longer you starve fear, the weaker it will get. “Pressing in” is the culmination of all of these keys.
If you are using the first three keys and you are still battling fear, BE ENCOURAGED that it likely means you are very close to breakthrough. The enemy only gets more desperate the closer you are to victory.
When you are close, he is going to throw every trick up his sleeve to derail you.
YOU are MORE than conqueror!
I am passionate about Christians taking authority and breaking off fear from their life.
Please share your testimonies of breaking off fear! We’d love to walk through that by your side.
