Working Sabbatical?

What happens when you pause, step into the unknown, and trust God with the next season?

In this post, I’m sharing the setup for a new adventure—what I’m calling a working sabbatical. Beginning March 4, we will be traveling internationally for 42 days, pressing pause on our normal work schedule, and intentionally creating space to listen to what God is saying.

This isn’t just a vacation or a time off—it’s an experiment in faith, obedience, and trusting God to lead, provide, and reveal what’s next.

What’s Happening?

Here’s a quick breakdown of what’s ahead:

February 26-28 – Hosting the Heaven in Business Conference in Atlanta (you can pre-order the audio/video here and get a free bonus).
March 4 – Departing for New Zealand for a series of business gatherings, retreats, and family visits.
✅ Traveling to Australia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Japan before returning in mid-April.
✅ Pausing structured coaching and mastermind groups to focus on listening and leaning into God.
✅ Stepping into a working sabbatical—where work and rest merge into an intentional rhythm.

This journey is about stepping away from normal operations to seek clarity for the next season—both personally and for Heaven in Business.

What is a Working Sabbatical?

A traditional sabbatical means stepping away from work to rest, recharge, and reconnect with God. But I’ve learned over the years that rest isn’t just an event—it’s a lifestyle.

🔹 Instead of completely shutting down, I’m intentionally restructuring my time.
🔹 I’ll be pausing all regular client calls and mastermind meetings.
🔹 I’ll be staying engaged by sharing updates, hosting organic conversations, and investing in key relationships.
🔹 The goal is to listen, learn, and discern God’s direction for the next season.

This isn’t about escaping—it’s about leaning in differently.

The Faith Step: Trusting God with Finances

Taking six weeks away from structured work means financial uncertainty. The initial costs, especially flights, felt overwhelming—over $20,000 in travel expenses alone.

But then, something remarkable happened:

A client who owed me a simple $500 reimbursement unexpectedly sent a check for $20,000—without knowing about our upcoming trip.

That was a clear confirmation: God provides when He calls.

Are there areas in your life where God is inviting you to trust Him more?

Lessons from Exodus: Waiting vs. Control

One of the most powerful lessons I’ve been reflecting on comes from Exodus 24-32—the difference between waiting on God vs. trying to control the outcome.

  • Moses spent 40 days on the mountain, receiving direction from God.
  • The Israelites got impatient and built the golden calf—creating something they could control rather than trusting in what was unseen.

As business leaders, we face the same challenge: When clarity doesn’t come quickly, do we wait on God or try to manufacture our own solutions?

This sabbatical is an opportunity to wait, listen, and trust, rather than force my own plans.

The 42-Day Revelation

As I mapped out the trip, I realized something unexpected: it would last exactly 42 days.

In Scripture, 40 days often represents a season of transformation—Jesus in the wilderness, Moses on the mountain. This sabbatical feels like an invitation into a similar process:

<p ">1️⃣ Listening daily to what God is saying.
2️⃣ Writing it down and sharing what I’m learning.
3️⃣ Trusting the process even when the full picture isn’t clear.

I don’t have all the answers, but I know God is leading.
