Are you nervous to go in to the office because of all the sarcastic ‘good-natured fun’, that really isn’t much fun at all? The gossip, ruthless ambition and ‘I’m in it for myself’ culture can wear you down for sure.

Here are 5 ways we look to create a culture of Heavenly Employee Benefits that make going in to the office a thing we look forward to doing.

I have worked in many environments where the stereotypical behavior was very much focused on ‘self’ and how the individual could get ahead. I remember feeling like I had to fight for everything I wanted and the atmosphere was typically tense.

Since understanding more of what God is talking about in Mark 12:30-31, I now get to experience how seeing others through His eyes encourages us to foster a place of work that we love to go to.

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.” Mark 12:30-31 (NIV)

These are 5 of the ways we do this at Heaven in Business

1. Invite Heaven’s participation

Everything we do is steeped in the Presence of God. We have given each other permission to say, “what does Holy Spirit say about that?” and keep each other accountable to always stay connected to Him.

There is something wonderful that happens when we put God first in any situation (whether in a Christian environment or not). Just honoring Him and acknowledging that He is leading and guiding you, makes room for Him.

Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;   in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Pro 3:5-6 (NIV)

2. Love yourself

We all actively take the opportunity to deepen our personal relationship with God. Our workday starts with individual quiet time for an hour and then once a week we all get together to pray.

Also, if we feel we need help for an issue (or someone points out an area where we seem to have blinkers on), then we are encouraged to either go and book a counseling session or ‘rumble’ it through with God and others in order to become healthy in that area.

3. Purpose to see others through God’s eyes

We can all get stuck in our own ‘common complaints’ about the way other people are. The things that irritate us or offend us or cause strife. All too often, if we let it, those thoughts spill over into a tense atmosphere and no-one feels good.

When we make the decision to see one another through God’s eyes, we can take the time to ask Him how that ‘irritating trait’ is actually a gift from Him.

4. Create a safe place to learn and grow

In our environment we have created a safe space to learn and grow. If we genuinely make a mistake, then we receive mercy and talk it through, putting parameters in place to help avoid a recurrence. We talk through the bigger picture and realign with our ‘why’ and move forward together.

5. Laugh together

We love to be in a joyful atmosphere. We work, and laugh hard together. When there is permission to be jovial, it frees people up to express their lighter side and creates great memories along the way.

Whether you’re in a Christian work environment or not, there is an invitation to partner with Holy Spirit (He knows exactly where you are after all) and bring Heavenly employee benefits to your workplace.

Ask Him

– How He wants to influence where you work
– What your role in that workplace looks like
– How you get to partner with Him to bring ‘heaven on earth’
