For you to realize your dreams, you need favor. Even Jesus needed favor to fulfill His purpose on the earth. Favor opens doors for you, sets up Divine connections, promotes you beyond your positional authority, turns decisions in your favor and even takes your disasters and makes them into stepping stones for success. Having no favor is like trying to drive a car without tires. So how do you grow in favor?

1. Steward the favor that you have

Everyone has some favor, however small you feel that may be. The first step is to be faithful with what you already have.

What relationships do you need to pay more attention to? How is your faithfulness serving in the existing roles you have? What is in your hand right now that you could pay more attention to? What are you avoiding doing because you are waiting for the ‘next big thing’?

When you continually focus on what you don’t have, you are cultivating a ‘favor repellant.’ When you focus on what you do have and steward that well, you grow the favor on your life.

2. Test the favor that you have

How far does your favor go? How do you find out how much favor you do have? Test it. You have not because you ask not.

Obviously this needs to be done from a foundation of love and honor, but when was the last time you approached someone you greatly admire or look up to and asked for a coffee and a chance to have them input into your life? Or, requested something from someone with whom you didn’t think you had strong enough relationship to ‘earn’ the favor?

Favor is a gift – otherwise it is not favor.

Recently I read a book and was greatly impacted by the message. I thought to myself “I would love to connect with that author.” Testing the favor looked like me tracking down his contact and sending him an email. In the email I outlined why I was contacting him, the specifics of how his message impacted me, then made my request to connect and the purpose of doing so. I didn’t get a personal response from him this time but received a message from his team asking for more information. The favor is growing! Another time I did the same thing and a year later, the author is a personal friend and made available some of his material for my first book, Dream Culture! Wow, who is just waiting to help you with your dream?

3. Give away the favor that you have

What does it feel like to have someone who has more favor and influence than you do, pick you out of a group and spend time with you or use their connections to make room for you? Maybe that was a parent, a teacher, a coach, a leader or boss, or even a total stranger that pointed you in a direction you needed to go. How did that make you feel? How did that help you?

Every day you have the same opportunity to promote others using your favor. In doing so, you are actually growing your own favor. The more you are known as someone that promotes others, the more influence and favor you have because you attract people – being around you makes others feel more powerful.

What could you intentionally do to use your favor to help the people around you? Who do you know that would benefit from some of the connections or experience you have? What resources do you have access to that would greatly assist someone around you?
